TV drama genres

Today we were told to look up and explain the different genres of TV dramas. 

1. Teen Dramas
Some examples of a teen dramas are: Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl and 90210. Most of these teen dramas are on Netflix which shows that they are aiming for an all ages audience as Netflix is available on many different devices such as TV, iPad, iPhone, iPod and many more. Teen dramas don't usually involve many rude scenes which makes it available for younger children. 

2. Period/Costume Drama 
Some examples of period or costume drama are: Downtown Abbey, Call the Midwife and Upstairs Downstairs. These types of programmes are all aimed towards a specific audience.

3. Police/Crime Drama
Some examples of police or crime dramas are: The Bill, Making a Murderer and Orange is the new black. These types of dramas are all quite different even though they are of the same genre. 
For example, The Bill is very different to Orange is the new black, however they are both from the same genre. 

4. Medical/Hospital Drama
Some examples of medical or hospital dramas are Casualty, Holby City and Grey's Anatomy. These TV dramas are all quite fast paced and always have something big happening. These types of dramas are aimed at a wide range of audiences, this is because some people may enjoy the reality side of the dramas and some people may then enjoy the medical sides of them. 

Representation Example: Pretty Little Liars

Sexuality- In this programme, there is some lesbian activity this shows to the audience that everything is acceptable in the world and nobody should be discriminated for any reason. 
Age- There is a wide variety of ages in this show, this could be to attract a wide variety of ages in the target audience. 
Gender- There is an equal amount of men and women in this programme and this could be to show that no gender is more dominant than the other. 
Disability- There is one blind girl in this programme and she is shown at the same as the other characters, if not stronger and this could again be to show that no one should be discriminated for any reason.
